This is about our dad.....Rod Howes....who passed away suddenly on 26th August 2005 aged 62 years
old
He lived in Whitstable, Kent. He is married to Penny and has two daughters, Gillian and Allison, two
son-in-laws, Peter and Dave.
Rod has 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Rebekah, Kimberley, David, Laila, Kirsty and Ewan.
Dad spent 30 years in the London Fire Brigade and retired in 1995 as an ADO his last station was
Clerkenwell. He loved every minute of it.
Dad spent a lot of his time in the Freemasons working for Charity and made a great deal of money for
various charity's including the local Sea Cadets and the RNLI.
Dad died very suddenly of a heart attack which was a great shock to family and friends and collegues
alike especially his 4 eldest Grandchildren whom he was looking after at the time of his passing,
unfortunately Dad never got to see Gillian and Peter's children Kirsty and Ewan or my youngest 2
children David and Laila - he would love them so much. Dad I wish so much you were here to see
them all.
All of us greatly miss him and finding moving on very hard but he will always be with us and never
forgotton.
We love and miss you very much Dad xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you for you: for who you are,
However far away;
And for the words you send to me,
Near mad for what you say.
Knowing simply that you're there,
Yet thinking much of me,
Opens up my happiness,
Undone for all to see.
WITH ALL MY LOVE AND THANKS HAZEL X X XX
Firefighter Poem
Brother when you weep for me
Remember that it was meant to be
Lay me down and when you leave
Remember I’ll be at your sleeve
In every dark and choking hall
I’ll be there as you slowly crawl
On every roof in driving snow
I’ll hold your coat and you will know
In cellars hot with searing heat
At windows where a gate you meet
In closets where young children hide
You know I’ll be there at your side
The House from which I now respond
Is overstaffed with heroes gone
Men who answered one last bell
Did the job and did it well
As firemen we understand

It was my dream that died, not you.
You are whole and complete!
It was my hope that died, not you.
You are perfectly fulfilled!
It was an earthly body that died, not you.
You are abundantly, forever alive!
My hopes and dreams may have died
When your earthly body died...
But my love for you is
Abundantly, forever alive!!!
And when we meet in heaven, all my dreams
Will be whole and complete,
All my hopes
Will be perfectly fulfilled,
And we will be
Abundantly, forever,
TOGETHER!!!

Fathers are wonderful people
Fathers are wonderful people
Too little understood,
And we do not sing their praises
As often as we should...
For, somehow, Father seems to be
The man who pays the bills,
While Mother binds up little hurts
And nurses all our ills...
And Father struggles daily
To live up to 'HIS IMAGE'
As protector and provider
And 'hero or the scrimmage'...
And perhaps that is the reason
We sometimes get the notion,
That Fathers are not subject
To the thing we call emotion,
But if you look inside Dad's heart,
Where no one else can see
You'll find he's sentimental
And as 'soft' as he can be...
But he's so busy every day
In the grueling race of life,
He leaves the sentimental stuff
To his partner and his wife...
But Fathers are just WONDERFUL
In a million different ways,
And they merit loving compliments
And accolade of praise,
For the only reason Dad aspires
To fortune and success
Is to make the family proud of him
And to bring them happiness...
And like OUR HEAVENLY FATHER,
He's a guardian and a guide,
Someone that we can count on
To be ALWAYS ON OUR SIDE.

What Makes A Dad
God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad
What Would Roderick Want?
You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all he has left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he's gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes,
love, and go on..
From Your Angel In Heaven.
I see tears fall down your face
When your thoughts have turned to me.
Just know that I’m in heaven,
With my Lord, who’s set me free.
No pain or sadness do I feel,
For God is by my side.
The beauty here in Heaven
Is now where I reside.
I know it’s hard for you to cope
For you can’t feel my touch.
But every moment, I can see
And love you very much.
When you are at your lowest
And feel you can’t go on,
Look towards the heavens
The light will be turned on.
Talk to me, just like you did
On earth when I was there.
You see, I’m not so far away …
Only as far as a prayer.
And when it’s time for you to join
Me up in Heaven above.
It’s then that you will realize,
The Golden Place of love.
For here there is no sadness,
Just everlasting light.
Someday we will be joined again,
When it’s time to take your flight.

Heaven Needed My Dad.
I still recall a loving dad
And cherish every day we had
I picture yet his caring face
His comforting and warm embrace.
A father’s jobs are never done.
And Heaven must have needed one.
For angels came and took his hand
And led him to God’s promised land.
A daddy’s like a teddy bear.
He teaches children how to share.
He reads them stories, swings small tykes,
And plays with dolls and fixes bikes.
Although there’s sadness, this I know --
He’s waiting there, his face aglow
I close my eyes and I can see --
His arms still open wide for me.

A prayer for my Dad xxxxx
A Firemans's Prayer
When I am called to duty God,
Whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life,
Whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
Before it is too late
Or save an older person
From the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert
And hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently
To put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling
And to give the best in me
To guard my every neighbour
And protect his property.
And if, according to my fate,
I am to lose my life,
Please bless with your protecting hands,
My children and my wife.
Love You Dad xxxxxx
